Aging in place is the goal. Access is the crisis

For years, aging in place has been presented as the preferred future of long-term care. It is what older adults overwhelmingly say they want, what families hope for, and what policymakers often describe as a more compassionate, cost-effective alternative to institutional care.

But wanting to remain at home and being able to afford, access, and sustain care at home are not the same thing.
